TOWNSHIP HISTORY:
Smithfield Township was officially formed on March 24, 1886.  The Township is located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and includes the Village of Smithfield.  A history of the Township prepared by Marian Sue McAlwee, former Senior Staff Writer with The Daily News, is provided at the bottom of this page. 

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The Township is located along the U.S. Route 22 Corridor between Mount Union, PA, and Hollidaysburg, PA.  Adjacent municipalities include Henderson Township, Huntingdon Borough (the County Seat), Juniata Township, Penn Township, Porter Township, and Walker Township.
